About Us

INTEGRATED FARMING SYSTEM

Balajee Sewa Sansthan with the support of NABARD has organized DPR Project on “Integrated Farming System for Livelihood Enhancement and Double the Income of Small & Marginal farmers” in Bareilly and Dehradun District.

Integrated farming system is a sustainable agricultural system that integrates livestock, crop production, fish, poultry, tree crops, plantation crops and other systems that benefit each other. It is based on the concept that ‘there is no waste’ and ‘waste is only a misplaced resource’ which means waste from one component becomes an input for another part of the system.

Benefits to Farmers

1. In integrated farming, different crops, animal husbandry, and other agricultural activities are carried out simultaneously, which gives farmers regular income from multiple sources.
2. Farmers can sell organic vegetables grown in integrated farming system at a higher price.
3. Integrated farming increases productivity and reduces costs, which gives farmers more profit.

Problems of Farmers

We understand that small farmers are suffering from erratic crop yields. This is due to lack of agricultural infrastructure and access to modern technology. This is leading to a decrease in year-round income. This erratic pattern forces many farmers to work as temporary laborers and migrate. These problems can be addressed by investing in integrated agriculture, improved infrastructure, and skill development programs for another source of income.

What is integrated farming system?

1. When many types of agricultural products are produced by adopting a combination of complementary and mutually beneficial methods, it is called an integrated system.
2. Having a fish pond on the farm helps conserve rainwater and it is possible to raise chickens near the pond, which produce eggs that can be sold or consumed. Chicken droppings can be used to make fish feed using a poultry shed.
